Aten CS1944DP connected to CS1644A, possible?

We have some ATEN CS1644A and want to expand from two monitors with DVI to two with DVI and two with DP.The ATEN CS1944DP would be our choice. Both has a connector to join two CS1644A or two CS1944DP together.Has anyone tryed to join one CS1644A and one CS1944DP togehter?I have asked th ATEN-Service. They told me it will not work. But I can not believe this, because it is only the order to switch what is send through this connection.

Do not try.

  • But in the user manual on page 16, the CS1644A refers to a DCC port (Daisy Chain
    Control)
  • The instructions for the CS1944DP speak of an RS-232 port.
  • With other devices it is possible to switch between DCC and RS-232.

This is not possible here either, which is why the support team will have said that it is not possible. You can try using adapters to go from DP to DVI and then from DVI back to DP, which is quite cumbersome, or you can opt for a different switcher. Try to stay with the same system.

Thank you!Unfortunately it makes no sense to switch from DP to DVI and then back from DVI to DP. The refresh rates of the DP would be throttled. Then I might as well connect the DP to another CS1644A.

If necessary, you could use a second CS1944DP. However, the price speaks against it. Apart from the fact that I can't predict whether this will work.So the question remains, can you combine a CS1844 (HDMI) with a CS1644A or a CS1944DP?According to the operating instructions, the CS1844 and the CS1944DP have DCC.So it should work between the latter two. However, there is not really a price difference between the CS1844 and the CS1944DP.

I have just had another look at the BA for the CS1644A and the CS1944DP.Apparently there are two different CS1944DP! One with the possibility to connect to a RS-232 after switching to "S" (page 5) and another version with DCC only (page 8).https://www.aten.com/de/de/supportcenter/info/downloads/?q=CS1944DPSo if the CS1644 and the version of the CS1944DP without RS-232 are available, it could work again. At least that's the theory.

I've already made some progress. The confusion that on the CS1944DP the DCC is sometimes described as DCC to DCC and sometimes as DCC to RS-232 is due to the fact that on the CS1944DP the DCC (RJ-45) connection can be used both for connecting two CS1944DPs and for programming with the PC (DCC to RS-232 on item "S"). This means that the CS1944DP can do a bit more via this DCC interface than the CS1644A.It could therefore work to connect the CS1644A to the CS1944DP via DCC (RJ-45).Since we will now be getting a CS1944DP, I will test this.We are curious!
