Software Update Introduces New Security Features and Fixes

New Features:

  • Day 0 Startup Enables Type-6 Passwords: CLI Setup program now allows setting password encryption levels.

Enhancements:

  • Secure Data Wipe: Initiative for securely erasing sensitive information on IOS XE devices, compliant with NIST SP800-88r1.

Fixed Bugs:

  • CSCwb68465: IE3x00: MRP IP connectivity issue resolved.
  • CSCwc07172: Issues with soft reload hanging when IOx or CyberVision is enabled fixed.
  • CSCwc52194: DHCP Discovery packet drops resolved when ipv6 dhcp guard policy is enabled.
  • CSCwc58174: Loop trigger problem when using wrong Portchannel member fixed.
  • CSCwc72101: OSPFv3 neighbor stuck at EXSTART issue resolved on IE3400.
  • CSCwd02557: Error in topology without the exp module on IE3x00 fixed.
  • CSCwd14921: LLDP packet rejection by Profinet for Lenze and SEW devices resolved.
  • CSCwd49796: Express setup physical press working on IE3400H.

Open Issues:

  • CSCwd19424: PTPv1 not functioning on Tengig ports when forward-mode is enabled.
  • CSCwd40311: Config: Logging buffered max reports no memory available.
  • CSCwd41453: Ingress feature on SPAN destination port stops working after port bounce.

Update Instructions:

  • Startup Config is Always Read from Flash: Starting from Cisco IOS XE Release 17.10.1, startup configuration is read from flash.
  • SMU Installation: Boot in Install Mode: SMU installations require the switch to be booted in install mode from Cisco IOS XE 17.9.1.
  • IE3400 Hardware Changes: Some hardware changes may necessitate software upgrades based on switch and module types.
