Defect ID: CSCwk70287

  • Headline: Temperature error syslogs observed in IE3x00 platforms
  • Problem Description: A limited number of Cisco Catalyst IE3x00 Rugged Series Switches do not report the correct temperature, and error system logs (syslogs) are generated every few seconds.
  • Background: Recent enhancements in manufacturing processes that were incorporated into the EEPROM data of the specified Cisco Catalyst IE3x00 platforms have resulted in an incompatibility that prevents Cisco IOS XE Software from accessing data from the temperature sensors of an affected device. This incompatibility triggers the generation of an error message within the syslog each time an attempt is made to read the temperature of the device.
  • Problem Symptom: The following issues may be seen in affected devices.

After booting Cisco IOS Software, the show environment temperature command will not report the correct temperature for the unit, as shown in the following example:
Switch# show environment temperature

Supervisor Temperature Value: 1414750032 C

Temperature State:

System Temperature thresholds

Minor Threshold : 80 C (Yellow)

Major Threshold : 90 C (Red)

Critical Threshold : 96 C
The switch console will show the following syslog every few seconds:
