Update

use network slicing to partition a 5G standalone

New software features for Cisco Catalyst Rugged Series Routers, Release 17.18.2

Product Impact: Greater Control
Feature: H-VPLS
Description: You can now use the H-VPLS N-PE Redundancy feature to enable two network provider edge (N-PE) devices to provide failover services to a user provider edge (U-PE) device in a hierarchical virtual private LAN service (H-VPLS). Having redundant N-PE devices provides improved stability and reliability against link and node failures.
Supported device: IR1101

Product Impact: Greater Control
Feature: Networking Slicing
Description: You can now use network slicing to partition a 5G standalone physical network into multiple virtual slices, each tailored to specific service requirements. Service providers can create several simultaneous network connections—each with a dedicated IP address and resources—ensuring optimal performance and efficiency for different service types.
Supported devices: IR1101 and IR1800

Product Impact: Better visibility
Feature: SI Support on IR1101 WAN ports including expansion modules
Description: You can now use the existing Service Instance feature—previously limited to configuring IOS-XE Carrier Ethernet infrastructure via Ethernet Virtual Connections (EVCs) on VLAN/SVI interfaces—to support IR1101 router’s WAN interfaces on these modules in Layer 3 mode only:
• G0/0/0 on base module
• G0/0/5 on IRM-1100-SP module
• G0/0/5 – G0/0/8 on IRM-1100-4S8I module
This enhancement allows GigabitEthernet WAN ports on the IR1101 router to function as Service Instances, enabling Layer 2 extension use cases (such as L2VPN technologies). Each service is instantiated with a different service-instance, and the VLAN becomes locally significant, allowing for better scalability.
Supported devices: IR1101

Product Impact: Ease of Use
Feature: Common HSEC License
Description: You can now manage HSEC licenses for your IR platforms using the same common DNA HSEC entitlement as Enterprise Network (EN) platforms with the Common HSEC License feature. Previously, Cisco Industrial Routers used device-specific HSEC licenses, which prevented direct installation and management through Cisco SD-WAN (vManage). This enhancement streamlines license management for your IR devices within an SD-WAN environment.
Supported devices: IR1101, IR1800, IR8140, IR8340

Product Impact: Enhanced visibility
Feature: ThousandEyes support
Description: You can now use the Cisco ThousandEyes Enterprise Agent to view end-to-end paths across networks and services affecting your business. It actively monitors network traffic paths across internal, external, and internet networks, helping you analyze network performance and application availability.
Supported devices: IR1101, IR1800, IR8140, IR8340
