Description
RS232 has a better noise immunity than the newer serial communication protocols over longer distances, proven to be compatible with many manufacturers for interfacing computers and modems. It defines the communication using a Data Terminal Equipment, DTE, and Data Communication equipment, DCE, referring to specified serial binary data exchange, describing the common voltage levels, electrical standards number of bits, and operation mode. The common baud rate ranges between 1200, 4800, 9600, or 115200 baud/s using crossover or straight cable connection. RS232 offers full or half-duplex communication, with a simple design and low-cost protocol for development.
