Skype enables participation in video meetings without an account

The current boom in video conferencing systems due to the Coronavirus causes Skype to be updated. Thus Skype makes it possible to participate in online meetings without a Skype account. The use of this feature is possible on the one hand via a local client software and on the other hand via the internet browser, but only Chrome and Edge are supported.

The invitation is sent via a link and allows participation with a click. Users without an account can participate in the meeting as a guest. All they have to do is enter their name, which is valid for 24 hours. Not even the organizer of the video conference needs a Skype account. Within the scope of these online meetings without an account, both the audio and video channel as well as the text chat can be used. Participants can also send files and contacts and share their screen.

According to Microsoft, there is no time limit for holding meetings, nor are the recordings and data of the conference stored for more than 30 days. A critical point is that access to meetings cannot be protected by password.
