Teams Room App run on windows 11 Pro ?

Hello
I didn't know exactly how Teams Room worked, and I got the unfortunate information that Teams Room only works on a Windows 10 IoT or enterprise.
I had ordered Windows 11 Pro + Logitech Tap and Logitech Rally to make meeting rooms.
And I stumbled upon the Teams Room app, and I gave it a try.
It works fine on Windows 11 Pro 22H2.
Too bad the kiosk mode doesn't work and just leaves a black screen.
There is a KB, I guess 23H2, that prevents the connection to the license and/or Teams. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the KB number.

Is there a solution so that we can launch this application as a kiosk mode by blocking all other interactions with Windows?

Regards,
Didier

It sounds like the Teams Rooms provisioning was not done correctly. Teams Rooms should actually look like on the website and no other apps / settings should be accessible.

Technical

You actually need a specific version of Windows Enterprise or IoT Enterprise, i.e. .iso. You can then create a provisioning image on a USB stick. Once Microsoft Teams Rooms has been installed and all other settings have been completed, only the Teams Rooms interface can actually be operated via the touchscreen. The user can only be changed when a keyboard is connected. If the administrator password is known to the user, he can of course make further settings and adjustments to the PC. Otherwise, only the "Skype" user remains for the MTR app.

Thank you very much for your reply. On installing Teams with the thick client, failed to perform the installation on a Windows Pro. Indeed, it is recommended to have an Enterprise or an IoT.
Why this prerequisite? The installation of Teams application works very well on Pro and I'm happy because I have 4 rooms to install with mini-PCs in windows PRO and I don't have the possibility to change license. It would be interesting to have this app on all OS. This makes it possible to transform a meeting room where you already have equipment into a Teams Room, just by adding a TAP and a license.

  • We don't know the exact details either and can only deduce this through reverse engineering.
  • Why it has to be Enterprise or Enterprise IoT may be because these versions contain additional functions or all the functions of Windows.
  • Another reason is that the MTR app then causes problems. (No problem for the technically savvy.) Users are often annoyed when the app does not work immediately. An unlicensed device may not be able to display the resolution correctly. Functions are not passed through correctly or default settings are changed.
  • There are always ways to install and use these programs, but with the next update Microsoft may have changed something in the code and then something doesn't work. Sooner or later, something won't work.
  • A check is actually built into the scripts to prevent the MTR app from being installed indiscriminately on systems.
New Windows feature updates are not immediately offered on Microsoft Teams Rooms devices. There is an intentional delay of up to six months or more after the general availability date published on the Windows release information page. This time is used to verify Windows release compatibility for the Microsoft Teams Rooms app, device hardware, and certified audio video peripherals. Verification begins and continues during active development of each major release of Windows. Additional time is required to verify that all device manufacturers have created updated images for their devices and for Microsoft to certify and test those images. During the verification period, the Microsoft Teams Rooms app uses Windows Update for Business group policies to delay Windows feature updates. After compatibility issues are found and fixed, the block is removed by updating group policies via a new app version in the Windows Store. Devices running the Microsoft Teams Rooms app will be automatically updated to an appropriate Windows version during the nightly maintenance restart. Customers who need to manage updates manually will be provided with an MSI version.

In the CreateSrsMedia.ps1 script, all steps should be listed to prepare your user optimally for the use of MTR, as an installation of Enterprise is probably out of the question.

We recommend using a ready-made system, as it is optimally prepared for the use of the Microsoft Teams Rooms App.
