AI Interpreter (Simultaneous) update: Quality upgrades + new language support

Release notes for Microsoft Teams admin features

May 20, 2026

  • AI Interpreter (Simultaneous) update: Quality upgrades + new language support (Traditional Chinese): This feature enables AI Interpreter to deliver now more accurate real-time interpretation, with improved handling of people’s names and common industry terminology. This feature also enables AI Interpreter support your organization’s Custom Dictionary in the Microsoft 365 admin center, helping preferred terms and phrases translate more consistently across meetings. Traditional Chinese is now officially supported.
  • Streamlined Microsoft 365 Certified App Management in Teams Admin Center: This feature allows Microsoft 365 administrators to enable Microsoft 365-certified SaaS applications within their tenant through org-wide settings for third-party apps. Admins can choose to allow a subset of applications that have already been verified against industry security and compliance standards. This ensures organizations can confidently adopt apps while maintaining governance and reducing approval overhead.
  • Branded meeting reactions: This feature enables visual identity to shape how your organization shows up. Whether it's a client presentation, an internal milestone, or a seasonal event, the right visuals set the tone and reinforce your brand. With new branded reactions, organizations can now extend their visual identity directly into meetings. IT admins simply upload custom reaction icons reflecting brand elements or event themes, and these instantly become available for meeting participants. Every clap, thumbs-up, or celebration now aligns with your organization's look and feel—a simple way to create more cohesive, on-brand meeting experiences.
  • Simplified Teams app bar to create a cleaner and more focused experience: This feature has enabled us simplify the app bar to help you focus on what matters. Apps are easier to scan in a cleaner "View more apps" list, the overflow menu is less cluttered, and you can choose to show or hide the app bar to create more space for your work.
  • One-Time Email Passcodes for External Presenters in Teams Events: This feature enables One-Time Email Passcodes to provide an easy way for tenant administrators and event organizers to verify the anonymous, external presenters invited to their events. When active, the anonymous external presenters will see a prompt for the new One-Time Email Passcode before joining an event and will get a 'Verified' tag next to their name after joining. External presenters with personal or professional Microsoft accounts will be asked to sign into those accounts to verify instead of receiving the one-time email passcode. Tenant administrators will have the option to require verification for external, anonymous presenters from the Teams Admin Center or by using PowerShell commands. Based on what the admin has set for the tenant, the event organizer will have another set of options available to them that extends to all external presenters. The options include (a) Verify external presenters, only allowing invited accounts to join; (b) Verify external presenters, allowing uninvited users to join the lobby; (c) No verification. (This option will only be available if the tenant admin has also set the policy to no verification.) This distinction for event organizers gives them the ability to lock down an event to only the invited external presenters or be more flexible by allowing uninvited users with the link to join through the lobby.
  • Attendee Packs for Teams Events: This feature enables Attendee Packs to provide additional capacity options for Teams Events such as webinars and town halls. Organizers can scale event attendance beyond base limits while maintaining a consistent Teams Events experience. Availability and enforcement are managed through tenant licensing.
