We’re rolling out GPT-5.5 in ChatGPT, our smartest frontier model yet for professional work. GPT-5.5 is built to understand complex goals, use tools, check its work, and carry more tasks through to completion.
GPT-5.5 is stronger at turning messy, multi-step requests into finished work. It can help write and debug code, research online, analyze data, create documents and spreadsheets, and move across tools until the work is done.
GPT-5.5 is also a major step forward for agentic coding. It performs better on complex terminal workflows, real-world GitHub issue resolution, and long-horizon coding tasks. It is better at holding context across large systems, reasoning through ambiguous failures, checking assumptions with tools, and carrying changes through the surrounding codebase.
The same capabilities also make GPT-5.5 more useful for professional knowledge work. It can find information, use tools, check outputs, and turn raw material into polished artifacts like documents, spreadsheets, slides, reports, research summaries, and plans. GPT-5.5 also performs strongly on search, retrieval, and document-grounded tasks, including multilingual and ambiguous queries and question answering across PDFs, reports, and policies.
GPT-5.5 Pro is available for the hardest questions and highest-accuracy work. Use it for tasks that require deeper reasoning, stronger structure, and higher confidence in the final answer.
GPT-5.5 Thinking is available in ChatGPT for eligible paid plans. GPT-5.5 Pro is available to Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. For Enterprise and Edu workspaces, availability may depend on workspace settings.
