Rfid is introducing new concepts and standards into its technology.
Rfid technology has published several standards according to which changes are made or supplemented in their protocol. Some of these new standards are:
- EPC — Electronic product code. EPC is an RFID version of the UPC barcode. The EPC is intended for use for specific product identification. The EPC mark itself identifies the manufacturer, product, version, and serial number. The serial number takes the EPC to a new level.
- EPC network - an Internet-like architecture designed to store and provide access to EPC-related data. For example, detailed information about items such as description, ingredients, size, weight, price; production information on a particular batch such as when and where it was produced and the expiration date; and distribution information about where it was located, including addresses, dates, and times.
- GTAG - global label. GTAG is an international RFID standard that can be used for general asset tracking.
