LDAP query truncates requests?

Hi. I am trying to get our Flip2 to use LDAP when sending email.

However, it seems that LDAP requests are being truncated before they reach the server.

I can SEE the LDAP requests coming in, in OpenLDAP running on my MacOS just fine. However, the server displays an error of

invalid dn: "o=example-domain,c=com

Of course this is wrong, so I agree with the service. However,
On my Flip2, I have correctly configured this test example in the Settings/Connect/Advanced/LDAP
to set the userID to

cn=admin,dn=example-domain,dc=com

(I installed a test LDAP server to try to debug this issue, I used these values. The server gives good results to an LDAP client called LDAP Admin Tool, so I believe it is correctly installed/datapopulated and working).

On this LDAP configuration screen, on the Flip2, the TEST button succeeds. However, when I send emails, the LDAP server reveals these log traces:

64cd579e.1f200c50 0x16e987000 conn=1045 op=1 do_search: invalid dn: "o=example-domain,c=com"

Any suggestions for me?

Does LDAP client in Flip2 truncate requests?

Note that when I test with a different client (i.e. the Mac version of LDAP Admin Tool) requests are accepted and the server returns the correct result.

Please help!
And thanks in advance.

  • We have tested the whole thing with a Windows Server 2016. For this we created 2 TXT files (LDAPConnectionConfig.txt, LDAPQuery.txt) on a USB stick. The LDAP server is without SSL certificate.
  • Here is the configuration we used for testing. During the setup we noticed some stumbling blocks such as in the LDAPQuery where the variables must be defined for a single attribute etc. As well as the order of the BASE DN. We always tested this with the ldp.exe tool from Windows server.

LDAPConnectionConfig.txt

- User ID=test\Administrator
- Server Address=192.168.100.200
- Server Port Number=389
- Base DN=CN=Users,DC=test,DC=intranet
- SSL/TLS=Don't use
- Use Untrusted Certificates=Use
- Authentication Type=Basic

LDAPQuery.txt

- UID=distinguishedName
- Email=mail
- Name=givenName
- Last Name=sn
- Position=directReports
- Company Name=company
- Department=department

Query

Query=(|(mail=*<A>*)(sn=*<A>*))

Brief instructions on how it worked for us.

Plug the USB stick into the Flip.

  • Open the settings -&gt; Connect -&gt; Network -&gt; Network status -&gt; Ip address settings -&gt; DNS server
  • Adapt the DNS server to the domain controller or the configured DNS server here.
  • Open the LDAP configuration:

Use LDAP: Set Do not use. Menu → SETTINGS → Connect → Advanced settings → Enter password → LDAP → Set up LDAP connection → Use LDAP → Use

  • Import setup value
  • Enter password
  • Test
  • Ok

LDAP query configuration

  • Use custom query
  • OK
