In my eyes the simplicity that it is a standard Ethernet. Availability of many devices that support it and much more.
With modbus we got better communication between industrial devices. We got long distance, since with modbus communication the data can be transmitted within a kilometer. Also, we can attach 247 devices / receivers (Slave) to one transmitter (Master) which will send them data.
