What is the difference between USB C and Thunderbolt 3? They both have the same plug.

Thunderbolt 3 is basically just a more beefed-up version of USB-C since it supports the same reversible connector. Thunderbolt 3 has more features than the average type C standard. It can handle more transfer protocols like PCI Express for external graphic processors, DisplayPort for 4K displays, and being able to achieve data transfers of up to 20Gb/s (which is twice the transfer speed when compared to USB-C). Hope this helps.
