Organize Files on Mac with Tags

Tags work with all your files and folders, on your Mac or in iCloud.

Tag Files and Folders:
You can add multiple tags to any file or folder. On your Mac, do any of the following:

  1. Tag an Open File: Hover over the document title, click the down arrow, then click in the Tags field. Enter a new tag or choose one from the list.
  2. Tag a File on the Desktop or in Finder: Select the item, then open the File menu or Control-click the item. Choose a color above Tags or click Tags to select from more options or enter a new tag.

Find Tagged Items
One way to find files with certain tags is by taking these steps:

  1. On your Mac, click the Finder icon in the Dock to open a Finder window.
  2. Select a tag in the sidebar: To see everything with a certain tag, click the tag in the Finder sidebar.
