Can't create members without them becoming guests?

I'm new to Teams, so please be gentle.....

I created a team, and added two guests.

As guests, they don't seem to be able to edit data, (excel file), and I need them to.

The struggle begins.

I deleted one of them, and tried to add them as a member, but it defaults to Guest. Deleting the Team and re-adding it makes no difference.

This might be something to do with needing the two users to be part of an organisation first, but I can't find out what to do, and can't seem to find out how to add them to an organisation.

AND if I log in as one of the other accounts, (on Android), I get no + symbol to create a new team in this user.

Help? This is driving me crazy.

By default, when you add guests to a team, they do not have permission to edit files. To change this, you need to assign them the appropriate permissions. Here are the steps:

  1. open the team you added the guests to.
  2. click Settings (gear icon) in the upper right corner and select Manage Team.
  3. click Guest Access in the left navigation bar.
  4. make sure the Guests can edit files checkbox is selected.
  5. click Save.

Once you have done this, your guests should be able to edit files as a team.

If you want to make a guest a member, you will need to remove them first and then add them back, but as a member and not a guest. Here are the steps:

  1. open the team and go to Manage Team.
  2. click the Members tab and then click the + icon to add a new user.
  3. enter the user's email address and select Add as member.
  4. click Add.

If the user is already part of an organization, he is automatically added as a member to the team. Otherwise, he will be added as a guest and you will need to follow the steps above to convert him as a member.

As for creating a new team on an Android device, you can only do this if you have the appropriate permissions. If you do not have permissions to create teams, the + icon will not appear. In this case, you need to ask your administrator to assign you the appropriate permissions.

I hope this information helps you.
