Location changes when i unlock phone ?

Hi I have Samsung s22 Ultra and when my phone lock screen is unlocked and i am at home, I get a IFTTT notification saying "applet run: turn your lights off when you exit an area". Why does my phone think I am changing locations when I am at home and simply unlocking my phone ?

Hi there!

Usually, the location service applets when having troubles using the location service on the phone, point to a possible issue with the device settings.

Especially Android devices can have a few settings that can interfere with this app's ability when it comes to the applets with location service.

So, below I am going to list a few possibilities that you might check on your device:

  • When you are home, you are probably on your Wi-Fi, but to be sure keep it enabled which helps to keep the phone location more accurate
  • Check if the IFTTT app is authorized to run in the background on your device
  • Power-saving modes can cause issues, so keep this setting disabled
  • When the location is turned on your phone, check if it's showing the correct location on your maps app, just to rule out a problem with the GPS
  • Always try resetting your phone - usually this improves the performance of the phone and it might resolve any issues

If your software version is Android 8.0 or above, there are three settings - Android WiFi, Location, and Battery triggers, which might be delayed up to 15 minutes or more after updates.

To avoid this delay there is a settings app that you can turn on (not affecting the battery life of your device), and improve the Applet speeds:

  • Go into the app and navigate to the Sync options setting
  • Toggle on the option - "Run Location, Android Battery and WiFi connections faster". When this is enabled, there will be a notification in your device's status to let you know that is working
