Each Microsoft Surface Hub device is automatically set up with BitLocker drive encryption software. Microsoft strongly recommends that you back up the BitLocker recovery keys.

There are several ways to manage the BitLocker key on the Surface Hub.

  • If you have connected the Surface Hub to a domain, the device backs up the key in the domain and stores it in the computer object.
  • If you cannot find the BitLocker key after you connect the device to a domain, the Active Directory schema probably does not support BitLocker key backup. If you do not want to change the schema, you can save the BitLocker key by performing the procedure for using a local administrator account under Settings, which is described later in this list.
  • If you have connected the Surface Hub to Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), the BitLocker key is stored in the account that was used to link the device.
  • If you are using a local administrator account to manage the device, you can save the BitLocker key by going to the Settings app and navigating to Update & security>recovery. Connect a USB drive and select the option to save the BitLocker key. The key is saved in a text file on the USB drive.
