PROFIBUS
Does the cycle time depend on the choice of addresses?
Does the cycle time depend on the choice of addresses?
Does the cycle time depend on the choice of addresses?
No, the cycle time is independent, since the master always has a cyclic communication with the slaves.
PROFIBUS and PROFINET have one of the fastest cycle times, often under 1 ms which is extremely stable making the communication Real-Time.
The address choice does NOT influence the cycle times because the master is cyclically communicating with all the slaves.
A PA coupler needs around 14.5 ms per slave so the cycle time can be calculated by the following formula:
N * (0.256 * Ibytes + 14.5) + 40 ms
Where N represents the number of PA instruments and Ibytes shows the number of bytes per each of the instruments.
