A short-circuit in a PROFIBUS cable will break the data communication in a segment of the line but it can be easily detected by using an oscilloscope.
The distance to the circuit break can also be measured, and if the users want to keep the installation running during these types of breaks, there are a few solutions that can be implemented:
- Installing a redundant circuit system
- Installing the cables in separate cable trays
- Dividing the installation into many parallel segments that can be coupled by OLMs, repeaters, or ProfiHubs and ComBricks
