Zoom Inc.I can activate the virtual background for a video conference in the settings, but I cannot upload my own picture on the desktop version (the + own picture is simply missing). In the online settings (zoom.us/profile/setting) I can add my own picture, but it won't appear in the desktop version - any advice?

In this case, it can really only be due to 2 things. Number one would be that your webcam is not recognized by the desktop app - if you don't have a camera enabled, you won't be able to make any settings regarding the background. Please check this in the settings or try a different camera.
The second cause could be that your system does not have the necessary hardware requirements to enable the virtual background. Please have a look at here.
