Why does incoming Zoom sound stop?

When running Zoom on my ASUS Windows 10 laptop, I regularly lose audio from the other party (regardless of whether I or they are the host). Suddenly, their excellent sound goes to almost nothing; just very soft unintelligible grunts. This happens with multiple parties. This never happened until a few days ago, but now happens regularly to the point where I can't reliably use the laptop for Zoom. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

This can have many causes. I would recommend you to check the following points in this case:

if you use an external camera with audio output, check in the Zoom audio settings if the speakers of your laptop are selected.
of your laptop are selected (it could be that the audio output of the camera is defective). 2.
Update the drivers of your sound card. 3.
Connect external speakers and check if the problem still exists.
