BACnet protocol provides mechanisms by which the controlling equipment may exchange information, regardless of the building service it performs. Thus, BACnet can be used in mobile and cloud-hosted devices, or general-purpose digital controllers. It is a client-server-based model, with five message classes for dealing with the network's events and executing the required functions. BACnet protocol can use several networking options starting with Ethernet as the fastest, ARCNET, Echelon's LonTalk network, or point-to-point communication.
