DALI is originally developed for digital control, configuration, and querying, replacing the simple one-way analog broadcast control. In addition to the simple configuration now, each DALI device can have a separate address assigned, allowing digital control of the individual devices. The DALI devices also can be programmed to operate in groups, providing flexibility, making it possible for a group of lighting systems to be reconfigured via software. DALI offers two-way communication, making the end devices capable of reporting failure or answering a query about other specific questions.
