Top answer

The following ETS function allows you to import external Group Addresses, with the corresponding format that can be chosen in the export process, automatically detected when the file is imported.

Importing

You can right-click on the "Group Address" item from the object tree and the "Import Group Address" option.

Once imported, every element that is defined in the file will create the associated Group Address item in the project and replace the existing data if it was already created before (import data always has the priority).

If the file format does not correspond to your current project settings into which you are importing, you will get a notification message.

At the end of the import process, you will also get another message that will show you how many of the elements might have been skipped (elements that do not match the format).

Exporting

When performing the exporting Group Addresses process, you can choose to export either an XML or CSV format.

Same as for the import procedure, right-click on the "Group Addresses" item in the object tree and select the option "Export Group Addresses".

Exporting in XML Format

This output format is similar to the one in ETS4 and ETS5 XML, making it easy to be edited because only the Group Address-related data structure is included (no other settings need to be exported).

If one of the Datapoint types is directly assigned to a Group Address, it will show as the last item in the Datapoint Type structure. All of the Datapoints that are assigned to a Group Object will be shown before it.

If the XML exported groups are in ETS4 format, those do not contain any Datapoint Types Sequence and no Group Address description field to ensure ETS4 compatibility.

Also, the XML-based at can be opened with XML or text editors if needed.

Exporting in CSV at

  • This type of output format is a text format where the actual values are written between quotation marks. There are a few settings that can be made:
  • The items separator can be a comma, semicolon, or tab.
  • The "Export with header line" will add an extra line to the output file
  • ETS3 and CSV formats do not contain any Datapoint Type Sequence and no Group Address description field to ensure backward compatibility with ETS3
