Top answer

With all IO-Link field devices, such as sensors or actuators, connection to a Master device is a must in order to communicate with a controller, usually a PLC.

The connection between the file devices and the IO-Link Master is established via the unscreened 3 wire cable, no more than 20 meters long. The IO-Link master is installed either in the control cabinet or as a remote I/O.

The IO-Link master device is capable of processing analog and digital signal values, meaning it is capable of integrating into existing systems and enables communication with PROFINET, PROFIBUS, MODBUS, Ethernet, and much more.

The master establishes the connection between the automation system and the IO-Link field devices.

The IO-Link master has several channel ports, where each device is connected to a port, creating a point-to-point communication .
